Mission to Madagascar

This is a report on the mission to Madagascar undertaken by the Special Rapporteur on the right to food from 8 to 22 July 2011.

Section II (food insecurity situation) describes the impact that the recent natural disasters and the political crisis have had on food
insecurity in the country.

Section III (the legal and political framework) describes the strategic thrust of the national policy on nutrition.

Section IV (food availability) examines the public programmes that support the agriculture and livestock farming sectors.

Section V (food accessibility) looks at land policies, policies on rice (organization of production) and fisheries agreements signed with other States.

Section VI considers the impact of the international sanctions in force at the time of the mission.

Recommendations are addressed to the Malagasy Government as well as to donors, lenders, international organizations and development partners.
