Convened by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to food, this expert consultation will draw on the experience of experts from the Latin American region in strengthening the protection of the right to food in national policies and legislation. It will be the first such meeting to be convened by the Special Rapporteur. A second expert consultation is planned to be held in 2012 and will focus on experiences of experts from sub-Saharan Africa. Experts will include civil servants, members of Parliament, and staff from national human rights institutions, civil society and international organisations.

The Bogotà expert meeting is organized jointly with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
