Land guidelines endorsed by French-speaking parliamentary body

[30 August 2012] BRUSSELS – The Special Rapporteur has welcomed the commitment of parliamentarians from 57 French-speaking countries to a series of guidelines on land regulation.

The Resolution on regulating land with regard to food sovereignty, adopted by the Development and Cooperation Committee of the Assemblée Parlementaire de la Francophonie (Francophone Parliamentary Assembly) on July 10, makes recommendations both to investor countries and host countries on how to handle large scale land-acquisitions and support small-scale agriculture.

The resolution calls on States to implement the Voluntary Guidelines for the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests, agreed earlier this year by the Rome-based Committee on World Food Security (CFS).
