[23 june 2011] BRUSSELS - The fact that the G20 Ministers of Agriculture reached an agreement in Paris today is excellent news, and it shows that governments feel that 'business as usual' is not an option anymore. The leadership in the process of the French presidency must be commended. However, the action plan adopted addresses the symptoms of price volatility on agricultural markets. It fails to address the causes. Several points of the plan are insufficient.

[21 June 2011] MEXICO CITY - At the invitation of the Mexican Government, Olivier De Schutter conducted a mission in Mexico from 13 to 20 June 2011. Speaking at the end of the mission, he called for a “state of emergency” in Mexico to battle both food poverty and obesity, and suggested that changes to the country’s agricultural policies could tackle the two problems simultaneously.
