19-20 May 2009 - High-Level Seminar on the Future of the Global Food System, Brussels

This seminar is convened under the auspices of the mandate of the Special Rapporteur in collaboration with LICOS Centre for Institutions and Economic Performance (KUL). A small group of high-level experts will discuss issues: 1) How to combat volatility on the markets of primary commodities 2) How to ensure that investment in agriculture contributes to the realization of the right to food 3) The role of trade in promoting the right to food: potential role of certification schemes and 4) The role of insurance schemes in order to encourage States to develop social safety nets.
